110 pacesetters ready for the World Half Marathon Championships 2014

9,576 runners expect to make the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships 2014 between 1:45 and 2:00 hours. 34 pacesetters run for this group, which make it the largest starting group.

The pacesetters arrive at the finish line within plus or minus 10 seconds compared to the time it says on their balloon, and as the runners in their group expect to finish the race on. See more here.

"Our pacesetters have a lot of experience and have done many races. That's one of the reasons why they are so precise. In addition, they check the time when they pass the km signs or a drink station, so they know exactly whether to catch up on some lost time for the next sign or take it easy", says Bo Lajos Jakobsen, who is responsible for the WHM 2014 pacesetters. Bo Lajos is pacesetter for the group who expect to run WHM 2014 at 1:40 and run usually as pacesetter for Sparta like the whole WHM 2014 pacesetter team.

The pacesetters run with balloons in different colors, and at the starting number, you can see which starting group / color you belong to. There will be the following starting groups to the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon:

Start Group 1: Less than 1:30 RED

Start Group 2: 1:30 to 1:45 GREEN

Start Group 3: 1:45 to 2:00 BLUE

Start Group 4 : 2:00 to 2:15 GREY

Start Group 5 : 2:15 to 2:30 PURPLE

Start Group 6 : Over 2:30 ORANGE

Each starting group is divided into sub-groups with 5 minute intervals, and the WHM 2014 participants choose on the race the day, which sub-group, they will run with. In the blue group, for example, you can choose to run with the pacesetter who runs 1:50, 1:55 or 2:00. If you choose to run with a different starting group than the one you have been placed in based on your expected finish time, it has to be realistic to implement the World Half Marathon Championships at this time. The pacesetters arrive early in the start street (Slotsholmsgade) Saturday 29 March so all runners have plenty of time to find their group.

In total there are 110 pacesetters to the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon, which is close to a record.
